The More I Know…

It’s true, what they say. You don’t truly appreciate what you have until it’s gone. Despite having travelled across the oceans, I have never fully explored my own back yard. Time to go back and walk the path I’ve never walked.

I’ve always wanted to leave the small towns.

I grew up in a small town, lived in one for most of my life. I never appreciated the autumn colors, the mild weather, the beautiful scape.

I’ve always wanted to move to a big city. When I had the chance, I left.

For a long time.

It’s been years since I’ve come home for more than 3 weeks. I guess it would be over five years now? I’ve looped around the world, and now I’m back.

I’m so thankful to have the time to come home, be with my family, have a productive time of my life where I can sit and think. I’m appreciating things I’ve never had before. We’ve been walking a section of the green way every day, seeing landscapes we’ve never seen before. It’s so beautiful. My mountains.

  1. I moved away from a small town almost ten years ago, and I notice all kinds of things that I overlooked before when I visit. Like even the kind of weeds that grow on the side of the road. It’s funny what you miss.

      1. I live in a suburb on the edge of the city, it’s the best of both worlds. 20 minutes one direction and you are in the country, 20 minutes in the other direction, you are in the middle of the city.

  2. I lived in different parts of LA all my life and I wanted a change of scenery. I got around to it by spending a few years at another city to find out it wasn’t all that: it was expensive and I did not have as many opportunities as I thought. When I moved back to LA, I sure enjoyed all the free in LA. It was like discovering it for the first time.

    1. My thoughts exactly, though I’m sure where you are in LA is 100x bigger than my small town. PS: how are ya’ll doing in Cali? Saw the crazy wildfires in the North, hope you’re okay. <3

      1. There’s also wildfires in SoCal too in the OC area. Last week I was coming home from San Diego and passed the OC and the sky was a bright orange. Overall I’m ok. I feel awful about Napa though– whole neighborhoods and wineries are gone!

  3. A wonderful reflection, Winta!
A stunning, serene view: must have inspired some deep thoughts!
I know what you mean, though, we often appreciate something, someone only after it is no longer there. We are fortunate if we are able to revisit these things, people.

    1. That’s why I always believe I should appreciate everything I have. A hard lesson to learn, that I’m still trying to figure out! Thank you, thank you! You are always so sweet. <3

  4. What’s beautiful about traveling our crazy world is that there’s nothing better than coming home ❤ It’s then that we can truly appreciate the things we hadn’t noticed before.

    1. Well said Shana! Some things you truly don’t realize you have until you left right? I feel like I’m trying to flip back on a book I read but that it doesn’t give the same feeling anymore.
